DAVID MUNDEE The Dothan AAA all-stars overcame a 3-0 deficit behind a four-run fifth inning to earn a 5-3 win over the Magnolia all-stars of Arkansas on Saturday in an opening bracket game of the Diamond Youth Baseball AAA World Series in Bossier City, La.
In Saturday’s game, Dothan fell behind when Arkansas scored three runs in the top of the fourth inning. The Alabama state champs, though, scored a run in the bottom half to cut the deficit before surging ahead with the four-run fifth inning. After Kasen Bertsch walked and was caught stealing to open the fifth, consecutive walks to Laken Lowry, Levi Stickler and T.J. Drinkard loaded the bases. Two batters later, William Richardson ripped a three-run bases-clearing triple to left field to put Dothan up 4-3. Richardson scored a batter later off an error of a Chase Traylor ground out.
