When it’s too hot to make a custard or do much at all, it’s nice to know that you can still have sweet-tart, bracing lemon ice cream all the same.

This was such a treat to make and delicious to eat! I am not a big fan of tweaking a recipe to death until it becomes something entirely else, but I do have to state that I cut the sugar by half. We are trying to be more mindful of our sugar intake. Anyway, I can't obviously compare it to the full sugar recipe, but I can say it was absolutely delicious and my 3 & 5 year girls were asking for seconds.

Yuck. I wanted to like this, but agree with you. I made the mistake of serving this for true gourmands. They ate it, but I could tell that they were almost repulsed by the full-fat texture that lingers. Next time I will stick with a true ice cream recipe that calls for a cooked custard/creme anglaise. Children, or those lacking refined tastebuds might enjoy this.

One-Skillet Chicken With Strawberry-Balsamic Sauce Recipe on Food52One-Skillet Chicken With Strawberry-Balsamic Sauce Recipe on Food52Whenever summer rolls around, all I can think about is eating fresh fruit. It’s the best time to enjoy berries—especially some ripe, sweet-tart strawberries. Ever since I was little, I’ve loved eating strawberries drizzled with balsamic vinegar and lemon zest, so it only made sense to try these ingredients in one of my warm-weather go-tos: skillet chicken. This one-skillet strawberry and balsamic chicken dish is just the thing to make when you’re short on time, but want maximum flavor. First, you’ll sear the chicken breasts (I used PERDUE® HARVESTLAND® Free Range Chicken, a kitchen staple) in the skillet to create a fond, aka those browned bits that stick to the bottom of the pan. Then, you'll add the shallots to pick up all that delicious flavor. The strawberries and honey will add a nice level of sweetness to the dish, while the lemons and balsamic vinegar balance things out with acidity. To keep everything feeling bright and fresh, I’ll add some basil leaves on top for garnish, along with crumbled goat cheese and crunchy, salted pistachios. However, if you’re not a big fan of either the basil or the goat cheese, feel free to swap them out with fresh mint or ricotta cheese.

Michel Guérard's Sauce Vierge Recipe on Food52Michel Guérard's Sauce Vierge Recipe on Food52Sauce vierge (literally, virgin sauce) was created in 1976 by Michel Guérard, one of the forces behind the lighter, fresher nouvelle cuisine that sprang up in reaction to cuisine classique, dripping with all its hefty mother sauces. There have emerged only a few non-negotiables: fresh tomato, olive oil, lemon juice, and fresh herbs—but from there it's up to you. In this way, sauce vierge is a true foundational mother sauce, one from which we can build many. Adapted very loosely from La Cuisine Gourmande by Michel Guérard (1977).
