Doctors want to make sure your Thanksgiving dinner doesn’t turn into a super spreader event for the flu as families prepare to gather for the holiday next week.

) - Doctors want to make sure your Thanksgiving dinner doesn’t turn into a super spreader event for the flu as families prepare to gather for the holiday next week. If your home is where Thanksgiving dinner will be served, doctors say you set the tone.

They encourage hosts to set out hand sanitizer at the buffet line, remind people to wash their hands before going through the line, and have antibacterial sprays ready to go. Whether you’re bringing the turkey, mashed potatoes or stuffing, Dr. Kre Johnson wants to make sure you keep the germs at home. Gatherings like Thanksgiving can result in people taking more home than just leftovers. “People always assume they don’t have the flu. ‘Oh, these are just my allergies! My allergies are flaring!’ If you have any symptoms, cough, sore throat, or sneezing. Either wear your mask or stay home,” said Dr. Johnson. Flu activity typically rises towards the first of the year. Dr. Wesley Stubblefield with the Alabama Department of Public Health said right now activity is below the seasonal baseline. “We haven’t seen any rapid increases in flu, although we don’t expect them in late November, early December,” Stubblefield said. Johnson said to prevent getting sick this flu season, there is more you can do than just washing your hands and getting a flu shot. “Don’t forget your vitamins. Making sure you’re taking a multivitamin every day, zinc is good, you can get those emergency packets,” Johnson said.“Making sure you’re managing your stress well, getting enough sleep, eat a regular diet, and that you get regular exercise - all of these things regulate your immune system and immune activity, so if you do get something, you can fight it off,” Johnson said. Here’s how you can claim money in a $177 million AT&T data breach settlement 2-year-old died after hospital missed a decimal point in medication dosage, leading to overdose, lawsuit saysCottage Hill Christian teacher fired, arrested on child abuse charges following viral videoFlorida Highway Patrol: Pedestrian killed on Highway 90

The main concern will be the potential for rain and possibly snow in several regions, which could impact travel times and conditions. The parade itself is expected to proceed under mild, possibly breezy conditions, but the wind conditions will be closely monitored.
