A new wave of arctic air and snow is set to slam Denver this week, bringing with it a prolonged period of sub-freezing temperatures and potentially hazardous winter weather conditions. While there is a chance of temperatures rising briefly above freezing around 3 p.m.

Thursday, this could only shave off a few hours from the overall duration of the frigid spell. The snowstorm accompanying this arctic blast is anticipated to deliver light flurries from Monday night into Tuesday morning, followed by a heavier snowfall from Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. Denver's downtown area is projected to accumulate 2 to 6 inches of snow between 5 p.m. Monday and 5 p.m. Wednesday. Similar snowfall amounts are expected in surrounding areas like Arvada, Aurora, Brighton, Northglenn, and Parker. The worst of the cold is expected to hit Denver starting Wednesday evening, with temperatures dropping into the single digits and wind chill making it feel as cold as temperatures in the negative range. At around 3 a.m. Thursday, Denver is forecast to reach a low temperature of 2 degrees below zero, which with wind chill could make it feel as frigid as minus 14 degrees. Residents are advised to take precautions against the extreme cold and potential snow accumulation
