North Texas is preparing for a significant drop in temperatures as arctic air mass is set to arrive. A cold weather advisory has been issued from Saturday night into Sunday morning. The most intense cold air surge is expected overnight Saturday.

Residents are advised to take precautions such as dripping faucets, covering plants, and bringing pets indoors. There is a chance of light snowfall overnight due to a disturbance preceding the polar air mass. Any potential flurries are most likely to occur in western and northern regions and are not expected to accumulate significantly. Throughout Sunday morning, temperatures will steadily decline, with lows reaching the 20s and wind chills dropping to around 10 degrees Fahrenheit by morning. The day will remain sunny and dry, with dewpoints in the single digits. While temperatures will briefly rise above freezing for a few hours in the afternoon and evening, they will quickly drop again as the sun sets. Wind chills will persist in the 20s throughout the day. On Monday, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, a disturbance moving through the Rockies is anticipated to bring increased cloud cover, but the air will remain very dry and cold, with wind chills in the 20s. High temperatures are expected to briefly exceed freezing, but for how long remains uncertain. Tuesday will see a disturbance moving west of Texas into south Texas, potentially bringing very light snowfall, although heavier snowfall is not expected in our area
