With Northeast Ohio locked under Arctic air, the region could see its coldest night of the week Friday night into Saturday morning, when temperatures are expected to dip to 5 to 10 degrees below zero.CLEVELAND, Ohio — A prolonged blast of Arctic air will keep Northeast Ohio locked in bitter cold through the end of the week and into the weekend, with occasional light snow or flurries adding minor accumulations.
Temperatures will remain well below normal across several days, with daytime highs struggling to climb out of the teens and overnight lows dropping below zero in many communities.Northeast Ohio remains under a broad upper-level trough, allowing frigid air to remain entrenched across the eastern United States. High temperatures are expected to stay below 20 degrees through Sunday, with lows generally ranging from minus 5 to minus 10 degrees away from the immediate Lake Erie shoreline. The coldest stretches are expected Thursday night into Friday morning and again Friday night into Saturday morning. Some overnight lows may approach record territory, though cloud cover and lingering lake-effect moisture could limit just how cold temperatures fall, forecasters noted. Despite lighter winds than earlier this week, wind chills will still dip well below zero at times, especially overnight and during the early morning hours.A weak disturbance could bring some light snow to Northeast Ohio Wednesday afternoon and evening.
