The power outage, which was reported around 11 a.m. Friday, affected parts of the prison for over 12 hours, according to county officials.
Dauphin County officials on Saturday afternoon said all electrical and air conditioning systems within the Dauphin County Prison have been restored afterafter a damaged power line nearby knocked out power to multiple county buildings in the area and broke the prison’s air conditioning system around 11 a.m. that morning.
Prison leaders said a generator capable of fully powering the facility was operational by 2 a.m. Saturday while a county contractor continued to repair broken electrical components on-site. By early Saturday morning, air conditioning was running smoothly in all blocks and temperatures were reading in the 70s as of 12:45 p.m., according to a press release. The prison’s kitchen had its power restored around 11:30 a.m., the press release said.
It is unclear what caused the prison’s air conditioning system to fail, but county officials said it may have been caused by a blown fuse.
