With Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 finally hitting Disney+ and the next season already filming, it's clear that fans will be getting more of the Devil of Hell's Kitchen. And it also seems like a lot of what Born Again's first season set up will come to a conclusion in the next 8 episodes.
WIlson Fisk's time as mayor likely won't last much longer. But a simple line in a scene of the first episode may be hinting at what the creative forces behind Born Again are planning for Season 3 and beyond. And it may connect to a classic Kingpin rival who had a shocking connection to him and to the criminal underworld of Marvel's New York. BB Has A Warning For Daniel In the Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 premiere, BB Urich, the niece of the dearly departed Ben Urich, is working to bring Wilson Fisk down, and she's using Fisk's Deputy Mayor, Daniel Blake, as her unwitting accomplice. But BB has come to feel something for Daniel. Not a romantic feeling, but a friendship. She's worried that Daniel will be hurt when Kingpin goes down. In fact, she tells Daniel that directly to his face. Showing up for a party at Daniel's swanky new apartment, BB can't help but be impressed, but also concerned when Daniel tells her that Fisk owns the building and gave him a sweetheart deal on the new pad. Even though Daniel assures BB that everything about the apartment is legit, she isn't so sure. Looking out for her source/pal, she tells Daniel that he needs to be careful because when Fisk's plans fall apart — and they will — he won't be the one who pays the price for it all. Is Daniel Being Set Up For A Fall? From what Daredevil: Born Again has shown us, Daniel isn't very smart. He's determined, works hard, and is very loyal, but he doesn't seem all that interested in thinking things through. All of these traits make him one obvious thing: a patsy. Daniel's rise from part of the Fisk for Mayor street team to Deputy Mayor happened quickly, and it was all based on Daniel being in the right places at the right times and saying"yes." This all suggests that his downfall will be equally quick and come from saying"yes" one too many times. At the same time, it seems clear that KIngpin likes Daniel. Not just as a lackey, but as a person he trusts. After Daredevil infiltrated the Northern Star in the season 2 debut, we're told that the only people who knew about the ship were Kingpin, Buck Cashman, the captain, and the first mate. But that isn't true. Posts By Kevin Erdmann It seems pretty clear that Daniel knew, and he told BB. Not because he is trying to take Kingpin down, but because he's excited to be on the inside and keeps working to impress BB. As for why Daniel would know: it's because Kingpin trusts him. He may even see Daniel as the son he never had. All of this is likely leading to a big, tragic, outcome for Daniel. One where Fisk is forced to toss his Deputy Mayor under the bus so that he doesn't get pinned with the crime. One where Daniel, in the most obvious turn of events, becomes a patsy. And while Daniel isn't the sharpest knife in the drawer, he is, as stated, determined and works hard. And when someone who is determined and works hard sets their sights on revenge, they can be very dangerous. And, if Daniel does end up taking the fall for Fisk's actions, and if he does turn on the man he sees as a father figure, then there's only one way for Daniel to get that revenge. He has to put on a mask and take away kingpin's power: his hold on the criminal underworld. He has to become the thorn in Wilson Fisk's rose. The Rose Nearly Destroyed Kingpin The Rose was a mysterious figure who attempted to destroy the Kingpin and rule over New York's criminal underworld. But the shocking part of the Rose's story was his past: he was actually Richard Fisk, the son of Wilson Fisk, who was believed to be dead. In truth, Richard faked his death after learning that his father was not a respectable businessman, but the Kingpin of Crime. Filled with rage, Richard decided to do all he could to destroy his father, and his first attempt was as a villain called the Schemer. The plan almost worked: Schemer's actions, and the revelation that it was his own son, sent Kingpin into a coma. But Richard found that, deep down, he loved his father, so he did what any son would do: he joined Hydra, who promised to find a way to wake Wilson Fisk from his coma. And it worked. But after learning that Red Skull was controlling Hydra, the two Fisks end up working with Captain America and Falcon to stop the old evil Nazi. Richard joined his father's organization as Rose, wearing a purple mask to hide his identity. But Richard couldn't give up his old plans and once again schemed to destroy his pops. As Rose, Richard starts a gang war that forces Spider-Man and Daredevil to take on every criminal organization in Manhattan all at once in order to save the city. The concept of Rose — a jilted son who looks to get revenge on the Kingpin — is too juicy a story to be ignored. And while Wilson Fisk doesn't have a son in the MCU, he does have Daniel. Daniel already knows that Wilson Fisk is crooked, but what he doesn't realize is that Fisk will happily toss aside his loyal soldiers if it means he can escape unharmed. And, when the time comes, Daniel will almost surely be used by Fisk, taking the wrap for his actions as mayor. And when that day comes, it wouldn't be shocking to see Daniel reach for a purple mask and start his road to revenge. Quiz 5 Questions Will Daniel Become Marvel's Next Big Kingpin Foe?
