In January, the Dallas-Fort Worth area saw prices rise 2.8% compared to the year-ago period, according to a new report.
Area prices on all items rose 2.8% for the 12-month period ending in January, according to Consumer Price Index dataThat compares to an increase of 1.9% in November, suggesting prices are heating up again, and confirms the Federal Reserve’s inclination to keep interest rates on hold.
Percival also noted that soaring motor vehicle insurance was a big part of the increase for transportation costs, which saw a jump of 7.8% in D-FW.. The egg index, on a seasonally adjusted basis, saw the biggest jump since 2015 — and made up about two-thirds of the total monthly food at home increase.
In the regional CPI report, grocery store prices were up 1% as a majority of the six food group indexes climbed in the past two months. Food was down in November compared to two months earlier. One relatively bright spot was housing, which climbed 0.8% over two months.
