The inaugural Michelin Guide Texas features several James Beard Award semifinalists from Dallas-Fort Worth, highlighting the region's thriving culinary landscape. The guide recognizes notable restaurants and chefs across the state, including Dalton Yoakum of the Knox District, Fasicka and Patrick Hicks of Smoke’N Ash BBQ, and Itai Ben Eli and Itamar Levy of Rye.
A few, but not all of the James Beard Award semifinalists from Dallas-Fort Worth also appeared in the first-ever Michelin Guide Texas . The 35-year-old awards program from the James Beard Foundation recognizes talent in the culinary and food media industries annually. Categories range from Emerging Chef to Outstanding Restaurant. Among the Dallas-Fort Worth semifinalists featured in the Michelin Guide was chef Dalton Yoakum of the Knox District restaurant.
Yoakum joined the restaurant in 2023 after moving from California to Dallas to take the job. His experience includes working at French Laundry under chef Thomas Keller. Other notable mentions in the Michelin Guide Texas include Fasicka Hicks and Patrick Hicks of Smoke’N Ash BBQ, who were recognized as Recommended restaurants. Apothecary’s sister establishment, Rye, also received a Recommended designation, in addition to Michelin’s Exceptional Cocktails Award, given to Itai Ben Eli and Itamar Levy. The guide also highlighted notable figures in the Texas culinary scene such as Sof Hospitality Group (Hamsa, Badolina Bakery, and Doris Metropolitan) in Houston, receiving recognition from Jennifer Hwa Dobbertin of Best Quality Daughter in San Antonio.
