Center Rep’s new season to include Pay-What-You-Can tickets and new single-price subscription for all seats and dates.
The cast of Center Rep’s “Cabaret” brings the decadence of 1920s Berlin alive as it performs one of many decadent numbers at the Kit Kat Klub. The Kander and Ebb musical runs through June 23 at Walnut Creek’s Lesher Center.Curtain Calls: Discover if original musical is ‘Just My Type’ in Castro Valley
Costumer Becky Bodurtha created elaborate outfits for the denizens of the Kit Kat Klub, including a skirt made of currency for The Emcee during the “Money” number and a show-stopping outfit, also for the Emcee, that unfurls into a gigantic German flag engulfing the ensemble. Adams’ voice, however, is a knockout. This girl can belt out a tune and, at times, be achingly fragile as in “Maybe This Time.”
“In the world of dynamic pricing, this is unheard of,” said Carolyn Jackson, general manager of Lesher Center for the Arts. “Center Rep may be one of the few theater companies in the nation to offer single-price subscriptions. We wanted to reduce barriers or complications for subscribers to renew.” Center Rep will move opening nights from Tuesdays to Saturdays. Single tickets will also have a base price regardless of the day, but if a particular performance becomes more popular, dynamic pricing will increase the cost.Town Hall Theatre’s new voices series continues with J. Lynn Jackson’s adventurous work “Lucía Fuentes” June 14-22.
“‘Lucia Fuentes’ was both triggered and inspired by the ongoing #MeToo global reckoning and by the families searching for justice for 43 boys kidnapped and disappeared in Mexico, where I live part-time,” Jackson said.A Juneteenth celebration at Todos Santos Plaza features Solo Opera soprano Shawnette Sulker. The annual event takes place June 23 from noon to 4 p.m. at Todos Santos Park. Sulker will be singing between noon and 12:30 p.m.
