Composers Michael Weiner and Zoe Sarnak with writer Danny Strong add rock-and-roll and contemporary sensibilities to the age-old theme of truth versus power to make the story resonate in today’s culture. Anita Yavich’s resplendent period costumes provide additional excitement as the ensemble skillfully executes David Neumann’s modern choreography.
The intense 90-minute play also features Anna Kosiarek as Sister James and Billie J. Simmons as Mrs. Muller.Pop rock meets poetic prose in Jeff Whitty’s musical comedy “Head Over Heels,” running through June 30 at Berkeley Playhouse. Set in the 16th century, this crazy comedy follows a royal family’s exploration of love, friendship, gender and sexuality, all set to the 1980’s tunes of the female rock band The Go-Gos.
The new work features estranged family members, a contested will and an enraged ghost as the story of an immigrant family on the verge of chaos unfolds.
