He’s had four INTs the last three seasons and according to PFF he allowed one touchdown last season on 21 targets. This is a reach no doubt, and Williams is a good outside corner. The size worries us some — he’s 5-10 and 192 pounds — but we think he can contribute in 2024.
If we had taken McDonald in Round 1, then a running back would have been our pick here. TCU’s Kendre Miller was available, as was Tank Bigsby from Auburn. It was hard to bypass Tennessee wideout Cedric Tillman . Illinois safety Sydney Brown also was available. But the safety class is considered weak. Brown had six INTs last season. He makes plays on the ball and that raised our interest. Yet, we went with the big tight end. Schoonmaker is a willing blocker who can gain more strength in time.
, so adding another target for Dak Prescott is important. Schoonmaker doesn’t have big stats and he’s a year away from making a nice impact.For the record, Kansas State running back Deuce Vaughn, whose father, Chris, is the Cowboys’ assistant director of college scouting, went No. 126 to the Cleveland Browns. Also Jayden Reed, a wide receiver from Michigan State, went No. 128 to the New York Giants. We decided to take care of the run defense and this is where Young enters the picture.
