With Bijan Robinson and Roschon Johnson gone, Texas needs a new leader in the backfield. Can redshirt sophomore Jonathon Brooks handle that role?
LAWRENCE, KANSAS - NOVEMBER 19: Running back Jonathon Brooks #24 of the Texas Longhorns runs in for a touchdown against safety Marvin Grant #4 of the Kansas Jayhawks in the second half at David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium on November 19, 2022 in Lawrence, Kansas. AUSTIN — The transition to a post-Bijan Robinson and Roschon Johnson backfield is going to require some patience.
“Oh, I definitely felt the difference,” Jones said of playing without Robinson and Johnson. “We all felt the difference. It’s the future now. We saw K-Rob. We saw Brooks; he had two touchdowns. Future is bright. So yeah, they were missed a little bit. But if you look at the RB room, it’s really, really talented. I don’t think they’re gonna miss a beat.”Brooks’ struggles that night make more sense with added context.
Brooks was once a certified star at Hallettsville. As a senior, he put up nonsensical numbers: 3,530 rushing yards, 62 rushing touchdowns, 12 yards per carry, 4,054 all-purpose yards and, sure, two interceptions for good measure.
