SportsDay’s Cowboys beat writers also discussed how the future could play out for Dallas at kicker.

Dallas’ front office is busy doing its prep work for the draft, inviting top prospects to visit The Star in Frisco as part of the league’s allowed 30 pre-draft visitors. Have any of the names thus far caught your attention? No one name in particular. But the fact three of the names that have surfaced during these visits — Zay Flowers , Jalin Hyatt andCalvin Watkins:

Ole Miss running back Zach Evans is someone of note. In 12 games last season, he rushed for 936 yards and nine touchdowns. Getting him on Day 2 of the draft — Round 3 maybe — would be a good move. The running back room is going to change in 2024. No guarantees returns and we all know how running backs are viewed in the NFL these days. So if you can get Evans and make him Pollard’s backup, that’s a win-win situation.Tristan Vizcaino is the only kicker on the roster. Is he the favorite to be the starter next season? How do you see the position playing out this offseason?Jake Moody and Chad Ryland are regarded as the best kickers in this draft, and one or both is a possibility of being taken late in Day Three.

It’s only a matter of time before this team finds a kicker worth bringing in. Vizcaino, despite kicking for four teams, doesn’t have a ton of experience. He’s only attempted 10 kicks in his career so getting this extensive chance with Dallas will give him an opportunity to prove he can win the job. He’s the favorite going into camp but he won’t be alone.
