The surveillance system will be monitored through a real-time crime center that will mimic other cities in the nation.

Within the next two years, surveillance cameras will be placed in every part of Montgomery County.MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Within the next two years, surveillance cameras will be placed in every part of Montgomery County, including the city limits of Montgomery.

This will be the newest tool for Montgomery police and the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office to use in criminal investigations and traffic crashes. “As I look around at departments around the country and in our state, we see that this is becoming the best practice,” said Police Chief Darryl Albert. Both agencies will have a real-time crime center that will monitor their jurisdiction with cameras that can read license plates, making it easier to catch vehicles and people connected to crimes. “That really helps us narrow our odds down as to who’s committing these crimes,” Sheriff Derrick Cunningham said. The sheriff added analysts will be able to track cars connected to crimes by following the direction of travel, even in a high-speed chase., a joint effort from the city and county to address issues exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic.Copyright 2024 WSFA.
