A total of 10 apartment complexes have been called before the Montgomery City Council for review.

The fight to hold apartment complex owners in Montgomery accountable continues.MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The city of Montgomery continues to crack down on apartments with poor living conditions. On Tuesday, Strathmore Park Apartments was brought before the City Council for review after receiving multiple complaints from tenants about mold, failure to complete work orders, and management changes.

“They’ve hired a new on-site manager,” a representative from Foshee said. “They have one full-time maintenance tech that began when they took over, and they have a second full-time maintenance tech that was there starting yesterday.” Councilman Oronde Mitchell said there have been 10 apartment complexes to go before the council for review, with the council taking legal action against Brentwood Estates, Woodley Oaks and Woodley Terrace. “Right now, we’re in the beginning stages,” Mitchell said. “Hopefully we can litigate between the two attorneys.” Mitchell added the end goal is to have apartment owners see the property before they buy it and work to make sure conditions are livable for tenants. A meeting with tenants from the three apartment complexes will be held Thursday at the Montgomery City of Refuge Church at 5:30 p.m. to inform tenants of their rights and their options. Mitchell is urging tenants to bring documentation like work orders, complaints, and phone call recordings to the meeting.Copyright 2024 WSFA. All rights reserved.
