Montgomery ’s Carver High School was set to play Saraland High School next Thursday night in what would have been the Wolverine’s and Spartans ’ final game of the regular season ahead of the playoffs.
That’s no longer going to happen however, for what Carver said in a social media post was due to “scheduling adjustments.” That post has since been deleted from the school’s social media accounts, but the deletion hasn’t ended the controversy.Here’s a statement from Carver High School in Montgomery on the decision to cancel the game against Saraland on October 30th due to scheduling adjustments.After posting the school’s statement, Carver head football coach Mario White responded to the tweet in all caps saying “I CANCELED THE GAME!” After WSFA tweeted the school’s statement, Carver head football coach Mario White responded to the tweet in all caps saying “I CANCELED THE GAME!”Carver’s since-deleted post indicated the cancelation was “mutually agreed” on and “in the best interest of their respective programs.” A statement made by the Saraland City Schools indicates it was not a mutual decision, rather one made by Carver officials. Saraland City Schools released a statement to the fans of Saraland football, saying that it was Carver’s administration and coaches who canceled the scheduled game. SCS also said they were prepared to host and looked forward to the matchup.The high school did not speak directly about Carver-Montgomery’s decision, opting to use SCS’s post to reiterate the cancellation of the game and the rescheduling of its ‘Senior Night’. Saraland coach Jeff Kelly, however, did react on social media to Carver’s post saying, “Come on…. This post is just not honest. This was the definition of a unilateral decision by Carver. I still got officials for next Thursday night. Let me know.."
