'I saw the white coat and ran to him but I couldn't get a word out and he knew exactly what to do - he saved my life.'
STARK COUNTY, Ohio - A Cleveland Clinic doctor used his life-saving skills to save a co-worker choking in the hospital cafeteria., was eating lunch when Jaida Evans ran up to their table and was “clearly in distress” and clutching her throat.
“I don’t even know how she got to our table,” said Dr. Kourlis. “She was frantic and looked like she was in really bad shape - she was moving no air past the food that was lodged in her throat.”Dr. Kourlis immediately jumped up and performed the Heimlich Maneuver on Evans. After about five or six tries, it worked and Evans could breathe again.
Evans, an inpatient pharmacy technician, said when she started choking, her first instinct was to look around and see who could help her. “It was automatic, I’ve never had to do that before, but I’m glad I was able to help her,” said Dr. Kourlis.Cyber outage: Everything to know about Northeast Ohio impacts: Cities, airports, travel‘Someone needs to be held accountable ‘: Ohio dog warden looking for those who poisoned 4 dogsAlliance police rescue kitten stuck in the gears of a reclining chair
