Officials say officers were trying to take Dennis Thornton of Leander into custody after reports of a man 'yelling and throwing objects' from an I-35 overpass.
A Leander man is dead after San Marcos Police Department officers shocked him with a Taser and restrained him, city officials said. San Marcos officers used a Taser , handcuffs and a 'wrap restraint' on Dennis Thornton , 43, as they were taking him into custody on Tuesday, according to a news release from the city.
San Marcos releases ID of man shot, killed by police Officers approached Thornton an Interstate 35 overpass above Posey Road after a 911 call reported a man on the overpass 'throwing objects and yelling,' according to the city. An officer tried speaking to Thornton but he didn't respond, according to police. After Thornton 'began moving toward' the officer, the officer backed away and ordered him to get on the ground.
