The company opened the outdoor venue on Armorlite Drive last November as a test concept. Its last day is Sunday.
Karl Strauss Brewing has announced it will close its open-air beer garden in San Marcos, The Outpost, on Aug. 11. It opened in Nov. 2023. Karl Strauss Brewing announced Monday afternoon that it will close its Outpost at San Marcos, an outdoor beer garden the company opened last fall. Its final day is Sunday.
Instead, the company experimented with a test concept — a fenced-in, 85,000-square-foot outdoor taproom with food trucks, picnic tables and pop-up shade tents. It opened in November 2023. “We had hoped to evolve this concept, but the challenges of operating a fully outdoor space, coupled with the hurdles that needed to be overcome for further development, led us to the difficult decision to end this experiment. While we loved sharing our beer in an outdoor tasting room environment, the reality is that our full-service brewpubs really allow us to better connect with our guests through our award-winning beers and outstanding service.
After the Outpost closes Sunday, its 11 or fewer employees will be eligible for open positions at other Karl Strauss locations, the company said.
