How should a parent balance the desire for “cool trips” and togetherness with a teen’s distaste for all family travel?
My teen does not want to go anywhere. At least not with her parents and family; she was excited for a school trip to Europe and had a great time.
She is now starting to say she doesn’t really want to make the trips to visit with family in other states, including on holidays. Most parents of teens get there, if not all, so I have to think you and anyone who has ever seen a movie knew this was coming? So maybe my role is to point out that even cool travel cannot buy you an exemption.The next thing you do is embrace it. Your kid is trying to understand who she is apart from you. Your choosing not to take the emotional separation personally is a great way to let her do that.
