There are new chapters galore in Brooklyn.

Brooklyn City Schools is currently transforming the former Ridge Road Cuyahoga County Public Library Brooklyn branch into an early childhood/family resource center. BROOKLYN , Ohio -- There are new chapters galore in Brooklyn .

Not only did the new Cuyahoga County Public Library Brooklyn branch recently open on Memphis Avenue but Brooklyn City Schools is busy renovating the previous Ridge Road library into a new early childhood/family resource center, which is scheduled to open next September. “This is a unique opportunity,” Brooklyn City Schools Superintendent/CEO Theodore Caleris said. “We’ve kind of run into a situation where the stars have aligned. This is going to allow us to just expand and really focus on our youngest students in the district. “We have a phenomenal staff there. We’re excited for the growth and really excited to take over the property and just add to our district from that capacity.” Brooklyn City Schools is currently transforming the former Ridge Road Cuyahoga County Public Library Brooklyn branch into an early childhood/family resource center. Designed by Architectural Vision Group, the estimated $975,000 renovation of the 16,500-square-foot building is being paid for using funds from the Brooklyn City Schools’ recently approved new money levy. The district’s early childhood program is currently located in three classrooms with a small playground in the PreK-7 Brooklyn School. “Where they’re moving to will truly be an early childhood center,” he said. “We’re converting that entire space to classrooms, so it will be a completely renovated space for our preschool. “We’re also adding an interior space for inside play and recess, as well as a new exterior playground. There will be a dedicated space to the family resource center when the opportunity arises, but 90% of the building will be dedicated to the early childhood center.” In addition to the family resource center, which includes a food pantry and potential partnership with MetroHealth to better serve the community, Caleris said there will be a Board of Education meeting room local organizations can also use. The superintendent noted in recent years there’s been a growth of the early childhood program with the new facility including an increase from four teachers to a support staff of a dozen. “Currently there are 78 preschool students but we have the capacity to have between 75 and 85 students both in our afternoon and morning sessions,” he said. The domino effect for the new early childhood/family resource center means Brooklyn School will have access to additional space. “We’re looking at moving some additional classrooms, giving some of our specialized staff a little bit more space to work with our kids,” he said. “So some of our staff that are currently in pods will actually be moving into classrooms and utilizing that space next year.Parma Sun PostIf you purchase a product or register for an account through a link on our site, we may receive compensation.
