Varang looking serious in Avatar Fire and Ash
Avatar: Fire and Ash has opened higher than anticipated, pushing Disney closer to a whopping $6 billion worldwide gross. Per Deadline, James Cameron's sci-fi fantasy sequel had a domestic box office opening of $89 million after Sunday's haul came in at $24.
5 million, higher than the $23 million Disney had called it at. Worldwide, Fire and Ash opened to $347 million, up from the $345 million figure reported on Sunday. The latest Avatar movie was down 13% from Saturday, which is better than the 18% Saturday-to-Sunday drop for Avatar: The Way of Water in 2022. The Way of Water's domestic and worldwide openings were higher, however, at $134 million and $435 million, respectively. Factoring in Fire and Ash's opening weekend and the $1.27 billion haul of Zootopia 2 , among other titles, Disney is now expected to reach $6 billion grossed worldwide by Saturday, December 27. Warner Bros. trails behind at $4.37 billion. Subscribe to our newsletter for box-office insights Want deeper context on box-office swings?
