Tomasdottir graduated from Auburn University in Montgomery in 1993 and has worked as an entrepreneur, CEO, investor and climate activist.
Many students at Auburn University of Montgomery have gone on to be successful after graduation, but the school can now add “head of state” to the list of its alumni’s accomplishments after Halla Tomasdottir was sworn in as Iceland’s president earlier this month.in 1993 and worked as an entrepreneur, CEO, investor and climate activist before winning Iceland’s presidential election this summer.
Troy Johnson, the executive director of the Office of University Communications at AUM, said the university hopes to invite Tomasdottir back for a campus visit once she has had time to settle into office. “To the best of our knowledge, Ms. Tomasdottir is the first who has been elected as a head of state,” said Johnson. “It offers a tremendous source of inspiration for our students and reinforces there really is no limit to where an Auburn University at Montgomery degree can help take you.”
