DEFUNIAK SPRINGS, Fla. - An investigation is underway in Walton County following a stabbing incident on Tuesday at an area school that resulted in at least three injuries. Deputies with the Walton County Sheriff’s Office responded to Walton Middle School in DeFuniak Springs at around 7:22 a.
m., joining additional response also provided by the DeFuniak Springs Police Department. Details remain limited at this time, but the stabbing resulted in the injury of at least two students and one adult, who were all transported to the hospital for treatment. Following this incident, WCSO went to social media, announcing that Bruce Avenue was shut down while officials were on the scene, with the Walton County School District also ultimately canceling classes for the day at Walton Middle. The sheriff’s office directed students and parents to a reunification site set up at the Walton County Fairgrounds following this decision. The school system also urged parents to continue monitoring their social media channels for new updates. “Our first priority, along with Walton County School Disrict was to ensure that students and staff were safe, the situation was brought under control, and accurate information was relayed to parents regarding reunification,” Walton County Sheriff Michael Adkinson said in a statement on the department’s social media pages.Additional details about this case are expected to be released during a 1 p.m. press briefing at the Walton County Sheriff’s Office downtown DeFuniak Springs Office, as well as during a press conference scheduled for Wednesday, March 25.Download the WTVY News4 app to get alerts and stories the moment they are published.
