According to the Walton County Sheriff’s Office, at 7:22 a.m., law enforcement responded to Defuniak Springs for reports of a stabbing at Walton Middle School .Officials say at 7:20 a.m., a suspect was detained a block from Walton Middle School .
A briefing is being held at 1:00 p.m. at the downtown DeFuniak Springs Office with the Walton County School District and Walton County Sheriff’s Office present, officials say. WCSO says a School Resource Deputy on campus and additional patrol deputies responded to the scene in addition to the DeFuniak Springs Police Department. Classes are canceled for the day at Walton Middle School as authorities investigate an incident on campus. According to a post on Facebook by the Walton County Sheriff’s Office, Bruce Avenue is shut down while officials, including the DeFuniak Springs Police Department, are on scene.WCSO says, “For any student currently at the school who arrived by bus or drop-off, a reunification site is being set up at the Walton County Fairgrounds, 790 N 9th Street, in Defuniak Springs.” According to the Walton County School District, parents are being asked to monitor the WMS Rooms, Walton Middle School, and Walton County School District social media channels for further updates.news@wjhg.comThird death confirmed in Mississippi prison transport van crash on I-10
