Victor Glover Jr., who lives in Houston with his family, will become the first Black man to fly around the moon as the pilot of the mission. We talked to his dad, Victor Glover, Sr., who lives in Prosper, back in 2021 when Glover made history then, too.
He became the first Black astronaut to complete a long-term stay aboard the International Space Station at 167 days.Glover, Jr. and the four-astronaut crew for Artemis II have experienced several delays in the mission. NASA originally planned to launch in 2023, but delays and repairs pushed the launch to April 1, 2026. According to NASA, Artemis 2 also includes NASA commander Reid Wiseman, NASA mission specialist Christina Koch, and Canadian Space Agency mission specialist Jeremy Hansen. The mission is set to last 10 days as the crew flies by the moon. It will be the first launch toward the moon since the Apollo 17 mission in 1972. Unlike Apollo, they will not land on the lunar surface.
