The Atmore Police Department is expanding the Project Eye Program to include registering business and residential security camera systems with the Atmore Police Department. A partnership between the police department and citizens with the goal of building a database of existing surveillance cameras throughout the city. This allows investigators to go back and identify suspect when a crime occurs. Investigators would be able to check the database to determine if a crime occurred near locations that have partnered with us. Home owners or business owners would then be asked to check their cameras to determine if suspect or vehicle descriptions were caught on video. Should a crime occur in your neighborhood, an investigator will contact you and ask you to review your system’s footage within a narrow time frame. Collecting this footage typically requires an officer or investigator to canvass a neighborhood by going door to door looking for cameras and citizens willing to help their neighbors. This is a time consuming process. Registering your camera system with us is an alternative to authorizing us remote access to your security camera system. We are not requesting access to your system by registering your system; we simply would like to know where footage may be available in the event a crime occurred in your neighborhood. The database is only available to investigators assigned to the criminal investigations division. The citizens and businesses who choose to partner with us will not be publicized. If interested in partnering with us or would like additional information contact Sgt McMann at 251-368-9141 ext 1174 or by email atMCSO: Shooter, 4 others flee Prichard scene after victim shot in chest; 1 arrest made
