CANYON LAKE, TEXAS - FM 484 between Canyon Lake and Fischer has seen a steady increase in traffic the past several years, but the problem may get much worse if

Despite recent heavy rainfall, Canyon Lake remains only 45% full, significantly impacting local businesses that once thrived in the area. CANYON LAKE, TEXAS - FM 484 between Canyon Lake and Fischer has seen a steady increase in traffic the past several years, but the problem may get much worse if a proposed Lennar Homes development is approved.

"The development is on, I believe, over 200 acres and it's proposed for 840 homes to be built by LENNAR," says Whitney Lauderdale, a Canyon Lake resident and member of "Fischer Neighbors", a group created to pushback on the Lennar development called Broken Cedar Ranch. One of their concerns, increased traffic. "We don't have a ton of traffic control out here. As you can see, there's no lights," says Lauderdale. They also worry about a proposed wastewater treatment plant to be built on the land, which the group fears could release up to 600,000 gallons per day of treated wastewater into area streams. "And those streams feed Canyon Lake, which is a large drinking water source of surface water for hundreds of thousands of people in our area," says Lauderdale. It is now up to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, TCEQ, to either approve or deny LENNAR's request for the wastewater treatment plant. More than 500 members of the community packed Canyon Lake High School earlier this month, sharing their concerns with TCEQ. "We're waiting to see if they will approve the permit deny the permit or move it to a contested case hearing. If it goes to a contested case hearing our plan is to work with Fisher neighbors and the attorney that we've hired to take it to trial and see how it goes," says Lauderdale. The neighborhood group expects a decision from TCEQ in Mid-April. We reached out to Lennar Homes to ask them about the community's concerns. We are waiting to hear back.Rep.
