Madison Academy, Winterboro, Cold Springs boys, Altamont, Whitesburg Christian, Marion County girls earn titles.

Billingsley High School's Edward Dennis competes in the hurdles at the Class 1A AHSAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday, May 4, 2024, in Cullman. Madison Academy rallied late Saturday afternoon to storm past W.S. Neal High School to claim the Mustangs’ second AHSAA state boys’ track championship in a row as the 100th AHSAA State Outdoor Track Championships came to a close for Classes 1A, 2A, and 3A at Cullman High School’s Oliver Woodard Stadium.

Added with the relay win, Dorsey’s team made up 24 points in a matter of minute and finished with 96 total points to win the title. W.S. Neal finished second with 84 points. Weaver was third with 55 and Hillcrest-Evergreen had 50.5 points for fourth place. Mark Marshall’s Whitesburg team had 124 points in 2A, followed by Francis Marion with 44, Hatton with 39 and Cold Springs and Decatur Heritage with 35 each. It was Whitesburg’s first state girls’ outdoor state crown since winning four back-to-back in Class 1A from 2015-2018.

The Class 2A boys’ 4x100-meter relay finals turned out to be one of the most exciting of the day. Reeltown, featuring senior Arthur Woods, and Goshen, featuring Jamauri McClure, came down to the wire with Reeltown nipping the Eagles in a photo finish, clocking 43.14 seconds. Goshen’s official time was 43.15 seconds. W.S. Neal won the Class 3A 4x100 relay title with the best time overall at Cullman, 43.20 seconds.
