Kim Chang-gil reporter On the 29th, President Lee Jae-myung told U.S. President Donald Trump, “Please make a decision to allow the supply of fuel for nuclear-powered submarines.” President Lee made these remarks during his opening statement at the expanded luncheon of the South Korea-U.S. summit held at the Gyeongju National Museum that day. Addressing President Trump, President Lee said, “I would like to add one thing. It seems there is a slight misunderstanding because I have not been able to fully explain to you,” adding, “If you allow the supply of fuel for , we will build several submarines equipped with conventional weapons with our technology.” President Lee said, “Diesel submarines have inferior submerged endurance, which limits tracking activities against the North Korean or Chinese side,” and, “If are used to defend the waters of the East Sea and West Sea of the Korean Peninsula, the burden on U.S. forces would be significantly reduced.” President Lee said, “I understand that you have already expressed support, but if you instruct that substantive consultations progress on spent nuclear fuel reprocessing and uranium enrichment, the issue will be resolved at a faster pace.”
