Kia announced on the 9th that the PV5 Cargo, the brand's first electrified purpose-built vehicle , received the top five-star rating in Euro NCAP's Commercial Van Assessment, the European new car safety assessment program.
Euro NCAP's light commercial vehicle tests have, since 2021, evaluated light commercial vehicle models sold in Europe on items such as driving safety, collision avoidance, and post-crash protection systems, and, based on the comprehensive evaluation, assign star ratings of 1∼5. The PV5 Cargo received high marks for its ability to support safe driving and effectively prevent a variety of collision scenarios through a range of advanced driver assistance systems and safety features, earning the highest rating. In particular, regarding the advanced driver assistance systems and safety features, Euro NCAP assessed that the vehicle is well equipped with a driver monitoring system and a seat belt reminder, and that it supports safe driving through an intelligent speed limit assist function. It was also lauded for the effective combination of collision warning and emergency braking control in the Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist system, accurately detecting not only vehicles ahead but also pedestrians and cyclists to help prevent crashes. It was further evaluated as enabling stable driving through the Lane Keeping Assist system, which assists steering wheel control and provides alerts when attempting to depart from the lane. Following the EV6 , EV9 , and EV3 , with the PV5 Cargo earning the top grade in the Commercial Van Assessment, all Kia passenger and dedicated commercial electric vehicle models evaluated by Euro NCAP have achieved the highest rating. Kim Sang-dae, Vice President of Kia's PBV Business Division, said,"With its efficient electrified system and versatile use of space, the PV5 Cargo has earned the top grade in Euro NCAP's Commercial Van Assessment, receiving recognition not only for practicality but also for safety," adding,"It will set a new benchmark for light commercial vehicles while driving major innovation in the global market."
