Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures officially kicked off Spider-Man: Brand New Day's marketing campaign a few weeks ago. As we barrel towards the film's July 31 release date, anticipation keeps increasing.

And that's made Spider-Man: Brand New Day's trailer the source of several new theories. Whether its potential connections to the wider Marvel Cinematic Universe or pulling from the extensive history of Marvel Comics, the two-plus-minute trailer offered some exciting footage to dig into. Breaking down Spider-Man: Brand New Day's trailer unearths several confirmed details, but the following are merely theories that have popped up in the aftermath of the footage officially arriving online. 5 Spider-Man Is Seen Saving People During The Void's Attack In Thunderbolts* One of many standout moments in the Brand New Day trailer comes as Spider-Man is shown swinging through the New York skyline, holding a man under his arm. It caught the attention of Marvel fans for how it perfectly brings to life the cover of Spider-Man's first comic appearance, 1962's Amazing Fantasy #15. But the homage occurs in a dimly lit New York as opposed to the brightness of the comic cover. That small detail has given birth to the theory that Brand New Day's scene ripped out of the comics has a second purpose. There is speculation that the darker sky is the result of Spider-Man's heroics taking place at the same time New York's sky was darkened during The Void's attack in Thunderbolts*. This theory boils down to Spider-Man: Brand New Day having a brief crossover with Thunderbolts* to show exactly what Peter was up to during the event. He might not have fought alongside the Thunderbolts, but he may have still been busy saving others from experiencing their own trauma rooms in The Void. Perhaps Spider-Man still got caught in The Void after this moment, too. 4 Wilson Fisk Isn't New York's Mayor After Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 A surprise of the Brand New Day trailer came with a confirmed connection to Daredevil: Born Again. In addition to Jon Bernthal returning as Punisher, the footage shows Wilson Fisk's campaign manager, Sheila Rivera . MJ and Ned watch her give the key to New York City to Spider-Man on TV. It might seem like an uneventful moment at first glance , but Sheila's presence in particular sparked theories. She's the right hand of a mayor who has outlawed vigilantes like Spider-Man, so why would she be giving one of them the key to the city? The prevailing theory is that this is because Brand New Day takes place after Born Again season 2, and that Fisk will not be New York's mayor by the time its finale airs in May. Sheila could take his place and befriend New York's heroes rather than fight them. If so, then Brand New Day's trailer spoiled a key part of Born Again season 2's story. Then again, others suggest that the scene could predate Fisk becoming mayor, allowing the connection to still take place without any major spoilers happening. 3 Brand New Day's Trailer Digitally Erased Heroes Fighting With Spider-Man There's also a theory that Marvel Studios is up to its old tricks and digitally altering specific shots within a Spider-Man trailer. This happened previously with Spider-Man: No Way Home, where Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield's Spider-Men were erased from a shot of Tom Holland's hero leaping into a fight against multiple villains on top of the Statue of Liberty. For Brand New Day, there is ample speculation that this has happened with the shot above of Spider-Man leaping into battle against six members of The Hand. Several ninjas are seemingly preparing for attacks from spots where Peter is not. The empty space below him has sparked theories that one or two other heroes are fighting alongside him in the scene. As for who they are, that's a whole different story. It could be Bruce Banner after he Hulks out. It could be Sadie Sink's character if she is indeed Jean Grey. There's even some belief that the trailer is hiding Daredevil in this scene, even though Charlie Cox has denied being in the movie. This is either a strangely composed shot or one that has missing elements for the sake of hiding spoilers. 2 Peter Parker Is Becoming Man-Spider One of the biggest theories to come from Brand New Day's trailer is tied to what is happening to Peter. He's shown undergoing some mutation/transformation, which is seemingly how he gains organic webbing. Peter even faints at one point and is shown with eyes that have turned black. There is a theory that this is all due to Peter becoming Man-Spider. This is a mutated form of Peter who becomes more spider than man. He gains additional arms and eyes and undergoes more physical changes to more closely resemble a spider. It is the final form of the mutation that began when he got his powers. This development could be tied to Peter's mental state in Brand New Day. After No Way Home's spell, he's fully embraced being Spider-Man and pushed aside being someone no one remembers. Him physically becoming more spider than man could reflect his priorities and help him realize he needs to still be Peter. 1 Sadie Sink Is Playing Spider-Queen, Not Jean Grey There isn't much of Sadie Sink's character in Brand New Day's trailer, leaving most to keep speculating that she is the X-Men's powerful telepathic mutant, Jean Grey. This would line up with some details we know about the character, but there's another convincing theory that she's actually Adriana Soria, the villain known as Spider-Queen. Soria is a mutant with telepathy with ties to the Web of Life and Destiny, including making her able to control those with the"insect gene." She's known for using humans as drones for protection and causing mutations in Spider-Man's DNA, such as triggering him becoming a giant spider and gaining organic webbing abilities. Many of those details line up with the story Brand New Day presents. It's possible that Marvel took this lesser-known comic character's story and gave it to Jean, but Sink being Spider-Queen makes more sense for the purposes of this movie. Whether any of these Spider-Man: Brand New Day theories prove to be true remains to be seen, but I could believe any of them happening come July.
