The Polestar 3 is getting two significant updates: Apple Digital Key functionality via an over-the-air software update and a hardware upgrade to a more powerful Nvidia Drive AGX Orin processor. All existing Polestar 3 owners will receive the hardware upgrade free of charge.
The 2026 Polestar 3 is receiving significant updates, both in terms of software and hardware. A forthcoming over-the-air software update will introduce Apple Digital Key support, allowing owners to utilize their iPhone or Apple Watch to lock and unlock the vehicle. This feature seamlessly integrates with the Apple Wallet, enabling easy management alongside other digital credentials like boarding passes and credit cards.
The Polestar 3 joins a growing list of vehicles offering Digital Key functionality, following Samsung's recent announcement of similar capabilities for the model. Polestar also confirmed that the Polestar 4 will soon incorporate this convenient feature. Users with iPhones can share their digital keys with up to five individuals, customizing the privileges granted to each user. For instance, one user might be restricted to locking and unlocking the car, while another gains permission to drive the electric vehicle. Additionally, digital keys can be transferred from an iPhone to an Android smartphone.The second major update focuses on the Polestar 3's hardware. For the 2026 model year, the electric crossover will be equipped with a more powerful Nvidia Drive AGX Orin processor, replacing the existing Nvidia Drive AGX Xavier silicon. Notably, Polestar has committed to providing this hardware upgrade free of charge to all existing Polestar 3 owners, a substantial benefit for current customers. Polestar emphasizes this upgrade as a testament to their dedication to delivering an exceptional ownership experience by ensuring vehicles remain at the forefront of technological advancements. Michael Lohscheller, Polestar CEO, stated, “The ability to upgrade the hardware of our cars when new technologies become available is the perfect demonstration of our commitment to deliver the very best ownership experience to our customers. With the Orin processor upgrade, the already outstanding Polestar 3 gets even better.”To receive the new hardware, owners will need to schedule an appointment at an authorized Polestar service center. Polestar will notify customers when the Orin processor upgrade is ready for installation. The U.S.-manufactured Polestar 3 starts at $68,900, including destination. The base trim features a 111-kilowatt-hour battery pack, a single rear motor, and an EPA-estimated driving range of 350 miles on a full charge
