A mom in west Columbus is speaking out after her daughter was shot and injured Monday morning while walking home.
"She was shot in the legs three times, she's ok" Lakresha Blair said, describing her daughter Tatiana's gunshot wounds. "She was just walking to my house from my sister's, house.""It's crazy how she is trying to come home to me, " Blair said, "and she ended up getting shot."
The Columbus Division of Police said the teen became caught in the crossfire of two groups of men shooting at each other around 5 a.m on Greenfield Drive. The gunmen have not yet been caught.Tatiana is not the only young person to be wounded recently by gunfire. ABC 6/FOX 28 reviewed police reports for the past week, and found there have been five incidents where at least nine young people have been targeted and eight wounded by gunfire."One of the only ways to stop some of this stuff, is to monitor what are kids are looking at," Sean Stevenson, who created the community group "End The Violence" said.
Stevenson told ABC 6/FOX 28 the focus needs to be on that small group of young people committing violence. "We need to be reaching the ones creating the problem, " he said, "we need to spend time getting their attention versus waiting for things to happen.""There needs to be more guidance, or there is violence," she said. "If there's more violence, then there is no guidance."Anyone with information about any of the recent shooting incidents involving young people is asked to call Central Ohio Crimestoppers at 614-461-TIPS.
