A tragic shooting incident in Cleveland claimed the life of a 10-year-old boy. Police are investigating the incident that occurred on Friday night and are urging anyone with information to come forward.
A 10-year-old boy was shot in the head Friday night on Cleveland 's East Side, according to Cleveland police. Early Saturday morning, the child was pronounced dead. Around 7:50 p.m., officers received a ShotSpotter alert for gunfire detected in the 3900 block of East 147th Street, police said. Shortly after arriving at the scene, officers learned that a gunshot victim was being transported to the Fourth District police station in a private vehicle.
Officers requested EMS and attempted to render first aid to the 10-year-old boy who suffered a gunshot wound to the head, police said. The boy was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead around 2 a.m. on Saturday, police said. 'Our children deserve to grow up safe,' Cleveland Mayor Justin Bibb said in a release. 'This is a tragedy that should never happen, and we owe it to this child — and every child — to do more, to be better, and to demand a world where kids can grow up without fear and violence. As we grieve, we also seek justice. I am calling on anyone who has information about this shooting to come forward. If you saw something, if you know something — please do the right thing.' The shooting is still under investigation, and anyone with information is asked to call the Cleveland Police Homicide Unit at 216-623-5464.'This senseless act of violence has stolen the life of an innocent child, and my heart goes out to the family in this unimaginable time of grief,' said Chief Todd. 'Any death in our city is devastating; however, the loss of a child due to violence is inexplicable. One thing I know for certain, we will be relentless in finding who is responsible,” Chief Dorothy Todd said in a release.
