Was Marty McFly's pal Doc Brown all he seemed?
Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT The Back to the Future movies spawned one of the most iconic movie scientists: Dr. Emmett Brown , the eccentric pal of protagonist Marty McFly , who miraculously converts a DeLorean car into a time machine. However, there are hints throughout Robert Zemeckis's trilogy that Doc Brown is not quite the hero he seems.
9 Doc's Friendship With Marty Is Exploitative Perhaps the reason Doc is friends with 17-year-old Marty McFly is that he can manipulate him as an unpaid lab assistant. He loops Marty into his dangerous, untested experiments which even risk Marty not existing; Doc, after all, is the one who triggers Marty to go back to 1955 in the first place, risking the timeline by meddling with the fate of his parents.
7 Doc Yet Again Risks Time To Save His Own Life Despite all his warnings to Marty about not changing the future ― and his later scolding over the almanac in Back to the Future Part II ― Doc reads the letter about his own future that Marty gives him in 1955. After ripping it up, he has a change of heart and puts it back together, equipping him with the knowledge to wear a bullet-proof vest and save his own life in 1985.
4 Doc Endangers The Timeline In Back To The Future Part III In Back to the Future Part III, Doc ends up stuck in 1885, when he and Marty save schoolteacher Clayton from plunging to her death in a ravine. Again he is breaking his own rules about meddling with the timeline, but Doc goes further. He ends up getting married to Clara and even having two children in the past.
