Many Star Wars characters have changed over time.
Like all the greatest myths, Star Wars is well known for the compelling nature of its character arcs. Some heroes are pinnacles of the light side of the Force. Others know the dark side well and are happy to linger it. However, one thing is constant; all characters change and evolve over time. The best of these leave a lasting impression.
8 Luke Skywalker Luke Skywalker is the hero at the heart of the Star Wars saga, the moisture farmer on Tatooine who became the ultimate Everyman Hero. Over the course of George Lucas' original trilogy, Luke evolved from out-of-his-depth farmboy to Jedi Master. He'd appear much higher on the list if not from the dramatic change between Return of the Jedi and Star Wars: The Last Jedi, which has proved intensely controversial.
6 Han Solo Han Solo is a firm fan favorite, his backstory revealed in Solo: A Star Wars Story - which showed how he became the hardened smuggler introduced in A New Hope. But Han found belonging in the Rebel Alliance, and even love as he fell for Leia Organa. By Return of the Jedi, Han was a committed member of the Rebellion, volunteering to help destroy the shield generator for the Second Death Star.
3 Obi-Wan Kenobi Obi-Wan Kenobi is one of the most recognizable Jedi in all Star Wars, his backstory eventually revealed in the Star Wars prequel trilogy. This - and Star Wars: The Clone Wars - gave viewers a deeper understanding of how the Jedi Master eventually found himself on Tatooine. The brotherhood between Anakin and Obi-Wan was stressed in the prequels, in tie-novels, and in animated shows, and this made Anakin Skywalker's fall all the more tragic.
