Clone Wars is one of the best Star Wars shows.

Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT The best Star Wars: The Clone Wars episodes reveal how much the show evolved throughout its run, going from episodic adventures across the galaxy to arcs that are as important to Star Wars as the theatrical movies.

Starting with the Star Wars: The Clone Wars movie, Clone Wars was designed to fill in the gaps between Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones and Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith. However, the show soon grew beyond its original premise and became a fascinating Star Wars story on its own, regardless of its connections to the movies. Seeing characters likeAnakin Skywalker andObi-Wan Kenobi in Clone Wars was always great, but the show never relied on the Star Wars movie characters. In fact, some of Clone Wars’ best moments featured the show’s original characters, such as Ahsoka Tano and Captain Rex. Here are the 10 best Clone Wars episodes, ranked. 10 Clone Wars Season 6, Episode 13, “Sacrifice” While it is difficult to discuss “Sacrifice” as an individual entry rather than a part of what became known as the “Yoda arc,” Clone Wars season 6’s finale was arguably its best. One of the most imaginative Clone Wars arcs, “Sacrifice” reimagined the Star Wars lore by introducing new concepts and characters that are still mysterious to this day. It also referenced other pieces of Star Wars’ lore, namely the inclusion of what seemed to be a vision of Darth Bane. More than a new interesting addition to the canon, Clone Wars season 6’s finale perfectly explained why Yoda is so different in the original trilogy compared to the prequels. 9 Clone Wars Season 3, Episode 17, “Ghosts of Mortis” Clone Wars’ Mortis arc is as fascinating as it is divisive. Having physical manifestations of concepts like the dark side of the Force, the light, and the balance of the Force was risky, especially in a post-midi-chlorians Star Wars canon. By reinterpreting Anakin’s Chosen One prophecy and having Skywalker find the balance between the Son and the Daughter, Clone Wars’ Mortis arc risked retconning Star Wars forever. That said, Clone Wars season 3, episode 17, “Ghosts of Mortis” is one of the best and most important episodes on the show. Star Wars’ Chosen One prophecy was always confusing, and “Ghosts of Mortis” added an interesting layer to it. 8 Clone Wars Season 4, Episode 22, “Revenge” Darth Maul stole the show in Clone Wars, especially in the first few episodes following his surprising return. Now a rising crime lord looking for revenge, Maul became much more interesting as a third party in the Clone Wars than he was as a Sith Lord in Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace. The Maul and Savage pairing made for some great interactions, but what really makes “Revenge” so good is the history between Maul and Kenobi. Seeing a rematch between Obi-Wan and Maul could not have been more exciting. In addition, having recurrent Clone Wars villain Asajj Ventress team up with Obi-Wan to face Maul was incredible. 7 Clone Wars Season 5, Episode 14, “Eminence” Most Clone Wars seasons did not have an overarching team and instead worked as a collection of arcs or standalone episodes. This was not the case for Clone Wars season 5, whose main team was Maul’s return and his plan to build a crime empire. The former Sith had bigger plans than just becoming a crime lord, though, and he became even more dangerous after teaming up with the Death Watch. Clone Wars season 5, episode 14, “Eminence” brought different storylines together into a thrilling, dark story that set the tone for the season’s remaining episodes. “Eminence” is a villain-centered episode that solidified Maul as the Clone Wars’ third party. 6 Clone Wars Season 4, Episode 10, “Carnage Of Krell” Clone Wars’ Umbara arc is one of the best pieces of content in all of Star Wars, not just in terms of animated series. A dark, almost gruesome war tale solely focused on the clones, the Umbara arc was both visually stunning and very well written. While it is difficult to pick just one episode of the entire arc, “Carnage of Krell” deserves to be discussed separately. After three episodes in which the clones’ spirit was tested, “Carnage of Krell” presented the clone troopers with a tragic dilemma. Clone Wars is at its best when the clones are actual characters, and this was the case for “Carnage of Krell.” 5 Clone Wars Season 5, Episode 20, “The Wrong Jedi” Clone Wars had three series finales, and “The Wrong Jedi” was one of them. In a way, Clone Wars season 5, episode 20 would have worked as the show’s ending. After five seasons, Clone Wars had finally explained why Ahsoka was not in Revenge of the Sith. The conclusion of a two-part arc, “The Wrong Jedi” followed the trial of Ahsoka Tano as Anakin tried to find who was really behind the attack on the Jedi Temple. Ahsoka’s trial was one of the best examples of how arrogant and blind to their surroundings the Jedi had become, leading Ahsoka Tano to leave the Jedi Order in an emotional scene. 4 Clone Wars Season 7, Episode 10, “The Phantom Apprentice” Clone Wars season 7 is arguably the show’s best, although it must be noted that it was produced years after the series concluded its original run. Now with more advanced animation techniques, Clone Wars season 7 got to deliver a higher level of quality compared to the earlier seasons. For example, “The Phantom Apprentice” had an Ahsoka Tano vs. Maul fight that used motion-capture techniques to create highly accurate, realistic movements. Clone Wars season 7, episode 10 had one of the best lightsaber duels in all of Star Wars, plus it brought the prequel era full circle with Darth Maul predicting the fall of the Republic. 3 Clone Wars Season 7, Episode 11, “Shattered” While not as nearly as action-packed as “The Phantom Apprentice,” “Shattered” was an intense episode that perfectly tied Revenge of the Sith’s timeline with Clone Wars. A show named after the clone troopers could not end without tackling Order 66, and “Shattered” did it perfectly. Clone Wars season 7, episode 11 featured the calm before the storm in the aftermath of the Siege of Mandalore. Those who had seen Revenge of the Sith knew that Order 66 was about to be executed, yet the characters obviously did not. The tension leading up to the clones’ betrayal and the tragedy of it all make “Shattered” a historical Clone Wars episode. 2 Clone Wars Season 7, Episode 12, “Victory and Death” Clone Wars season 7, episode 12 was the show’s actual finale after the original cancellation and The Lost Missions. Although “Victory and Death” is the fourth part of an arc that can be watched as a movie, the episode stands on its own. Clone Wars would never end on a happy note, as the end of the war was the beginning of even darker times for the Star Wars galaxy. Palpatine won the Clone Wars, and both the Jedi and the clones were victims of the Sith’s plan. “Victory and Death” rightfully focuses on Ahsoka, Rex, and Maul, which were the show’s biggest contribution to the Star Wars canon. 1 Clone Wars Season 5, Episode 16, “The Lawless” Obi-Wan Kenobi wearing Darth Maul-inspired Mandalorian armor as he walks through a Mandalorian civil war is just one of the elements that make “The Lawless” such an incredible episode. Clone Wars season 5, episode 16 raised the stakes for the show by killing off Satine, who was killed by Maul in front of Obi-Wan. The fact that Obi-Wan’s spirit was not broken by a wish for revenge was a great parallel to Anakin’s story, and it explained why Obi-Wan endured even after the Republic fell. A tragic, action-packed episode in which every action had a consequence, “The Lawless” was Star Wars: The Clone Wars at its best.
