As the Star Wars universe continues to expand, the connections between the live-action and animated stories have grown deeper. This phenomenon brought beloved animated characters to life, like Bo-Katan and Ahsoka .
Yet no series does this on a larger scale than Ahsoka, which, in addition to being named after the beloved Padawan from Star Wars: The Clone Wars, includes most of the cast of Star Wars: Rebels. Sabine takes a central role as Ahsoka's apprentice, and Hera and Chopper are among the few willing to help Ahsoka on her mission to find their lost friend, Ezra and their former Imperial enemy Thrawn . With so many important players from Rebels once again playing major roles, it seems like Ahsoka was, in part, an addition to the animated series. Even his heroic sacrifice in Rebels wasn't enough to stop Ahsoka from providing a brief glimpse of a live-action Kanan Jarrus , who can be seen in a photo on Hera's dashboard in a brief cameo. Even so, Ahsoka didn't feature all of Rebels' leads because one member of the Ghost Crew was conspicuously missing from Season 1. After his live-action debut in The Mandalorian, Zeb only got a cursory mention in the series that involved all of his crewmates. Despite having plenty of reasons and opportunities for Zeb to show up, Ahsoka left the Lasat pilot alone, at least for Season 1. However, Season 2 plans to correct this oversight by bringing Zeb into the story. With only so much information about Season 2 released, the concept-art teaser trailer at the 2025 Star Wars Celebration confirmed that Zeb will show up for the next installment, providing the full reunion fans want. 'Ahsoka' Had the Perfect Opportunity to Include Zeb Zeb's absence in Ahsoka Season 1 is inexplicable. Sure, the fact that, unlike most of the characters, he largely lacks human traits would have made it more complicated than bringing Ezra and Sabine to life. As a Lasat, Zeb is even less humanoid than Hera and Ahsoka's species, but The Mandalorian showed it was possible to recreate the character for a live-action medium. With that problem solved and even casting unnecessary, it's strange Zeb was left out, especially because the series had the perfect opportunity to add him. Throughout Season 1, Ahsoka and Sabine are on a mission to find Ezra and Thrawn. Meanwhile, Hera helps them while simultaneously trying to convince the New Republic that Thrawn is a threat. As Hera looks for allies she can rely on, who would be better than Zeb, a key member of the Rebel Alliance, whom she fought beside in the Rebellion? On top of their familiarity, Zeb understands the threat that Thrawn represents and, as a close friend, would be as motivated as anyone to save Ezra. And yet, no one thinks of calling him? While it would be easy to assume that Zeb pursued a much simpler life after the fall of the Empire, making his friends resistant to pull him back in, The Mandalorian proves that is not the case. In fact, his scene in Season 3, Episode 5,"Chapter 21: The Pirate," shows Zeb roughly in the same timeframe as Ahsoka, sitting around a bar and wearing a pilot's uniform for the New Republic. If Zeb is still in the military, he would be the perfect backup for Hera. Oddly, The Mandalorian positions Zeb with Captain Carson Teva , who works as a unifying figure in the live-action Star Wars shows and even appears in three episodes of Ahsoka, but despite their proximity, when Teva and several other pilots arrive to help Hera, Zeb is nowhere to be seen. Considering the connection between Zeb and Teva established in The Mandalorian, that would have been the perfect place to include Zeb in Ahsoka, yet the series missed the opportunity. 6:58 Related 'Ahsoka's Rosario Dawson Reveals Her Unique Approach to Preparing for Season 2 What's in store for the next chapter in Ahsoka Tano's Star Wars story? Posts Zeb Will Appear in 'Ahsoka' Season 2 While it was odd when Zeb didn't initially get a role in Ahsoka, Season 2 is poised to correct that after the first teaser for the next installment released at the 2025 Star Wars Celebration confirms that Zeb will be involved. Ahsoka seems to be embracing its place as the Rebels reunion it was clearly structured to be by including all surviving members of the Ghost crew, hopefully bringing their live-action versions together for the first time. However, when it comes to what Zeb will do in Ahsoka, there is still some mystery. Details for the upcoming season, which will be released sometime in 2026, are few, but the first season ended with Ezra making it back to the known galaxy and finding Hera, so it stands to reason that Zeb will get his own reunion with the friend he believed to be dead. Ahsoka Season 1 ended with plenty of challenges as Ahsoka and Sabine are now trapped on Peridea and Thrawn returned to the galaxy. With the limited information about Season 2 confirming that Thrawn will be trying to bring back the Empire, Zeb will likely be positioned to help Ezra and Hera thwart him. Zeb is among the few to have faced Thrawn before and can be a valuable addition to the heroes' cause. Though it was a letdown not to see Zeb helping out in finding Ezra, Ahsoka Season 2 seems likely to set things right by bringing him back to work alongside the surviving members of the Ghost crew, resuming his rightful place in their little family. Zeb Fits Naturally with 'Ahsoka's Story Close Zeb joining Ahsoka Season 2 feels like a victory because it is a natural fit for him. He has established relationships with the main cast after spending four seasons of Rebels fighting beside and growing close to Hera, Ezra, Sabine, and Chopper. Their dynamic has already proven interesting enough to sustain a series, but without him, the group is missing something. Ahsoka, in many ways, serves as a successor to Rebels. Much of the leads overlap, Thrawn is the central villain, and the story picks up on Rebels' cliffhanger. With so much tying them together, including the surviving members of the animated show, makes sense. While leaving Zeb out of Season 1 was a baffling choice, his confirmed appearance in Season 2 can set it right, allowing the members of the Ghost crew to have a true reunion.Your Rating close 10 stars 9 stars 8 stars 7 stars 6 stars 5 stars 4 stars 3 stars 2 stars 1 star Rate Now 0/10 Your comment has not been saved Like Follow Followed Ahsoka TV-14 Drama Action Adventure Science Fiction 7 10 9.3/10 Release Date August 22, 2023 Network Disney+ Showrunner Dave Filoni Directors Steph Green, Jennifer Getzinger, Peter Ramsey, Rick Famuyiwa Writers Dave Filoni Cast See All
