While Mobile Suit Gundam is primarily known for its anime series, it has also spawned numerous successful manga adaptations. The latest addition to this iconic franchise continues the narrative of the most groundbreaking Gundam story to date: The Witch From Mercury anime series. The official Witch of Mercury X account @G_Witch_M announced that a new manga series, Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch From Mercury - Youth Frontier, will premiere in Spring 2025.
This is not a manga adaptation of the hit anime series, but a spin-off story focusing on the anime's main protagonists, Suletta Mercury and Miorine Rembran. However, unlike the anime that takes place at the Asticassia School of Technology, Youth Frontier will be set in a high school on Earth in Japan. The New Witch From Mercury Manga Is Set to Explore a Crucial Aspect of the Original Series - The Relationship Between Suletta and Miroine Is a Key Element of the Story While marketed as an'exciting story set in Japan’s near future', the series announcement left much of the plot shrouded in mystery. However, it did reveal the primary creative team, which is deeply rooted in the Witch From Mercury tradition. HISADAKE, who previously contributed to the Witch From Mercury anime in various roles, will write the series. The series will be exclusively published on Comic Newtype, a digital manga platform within Kadokawa Publishing's portfolio. Specifically, Comic Newtype focuses on manga adaptations of anime, among other genres, making it a fitting home for this new series.According to a release from Comic Newtype, HISADAKE aims to use the story as a way to introduce readers to Japan’s diverse landmarks and points of interest.
