UTSA jumped out to a first-half lead as large as eight points, but Arkansas continued to attack on the interior, eventually overwhelming the Roadrunners for a 75-60 win on Saturday in Fayetteville , Ark.
The Razorbacks outscored the Roadrunners 40-22 in the paint, shooting 60.5% on two-point shots and building a 38-22 rebounding margin. Primo Spears led UTSA with 19 points on 8-of-19 shooting, while Marcus Millender netted 18 on 6-of-14 shooting. Tai’Reon Joseph, a Southern transfer who averaged 20.5 points per game last season, made his UTSA debut Saturday, stepping into the starting lineup and scoring four points on 2-of-6 shooting in 21 minutes. The Roadrunners’ largest lead was 32-24 during the final minute of the opening half, building an edge behind a late 8-0 run. Arkansas scored the first eight points of the second half to reclaim the advantage at 35-32, then stretched the margin to double-digits on a 9-0 spurt with about 12 minutes to play. The Razorbacks led by as many as 16 points down the stretch. The Cardinals limited the Lions to 36.6% shooting and built a 36-12 advantage on points in the paint. East Texas A&M finished with 21 turnovers. The Lions never led, as the Cardinals stormed out to a 17-3 lead about five minutes into the game and extended the margin as far as 39-20 in the closing minutes of the half. UTSA outscored Sam Houston 60-8 in the paint, building a commanding 53-27 rebounding advantage. The Roadrunners hit 60% of their two-point shots, racking up nine blocks and holding the Bearkats to 21.6% shooting overall. Jordyn Jenkins scored a game-high 22 points with 10 rebounds on 9-of-18 shooting, while Idara Udo tallied 15 points on 6-of-8 shooting with eight rebounds. Sidney Love also scored in double figures, netting 10 points with five assists.
