Salman Yousaf, 46, was sentenced to four and a half years for sexually assaulting women who fell asleep on night Tube trains in London. He targeted lone passengers between 2017 and 2021, and was caught after police linked him to the crimes while he was already in prison.
Salman Yousaf, a 46-year-old predator, was sentenced to four and a half years in prison after admitting to a series of sexual assault s on women who had fallen asleep on night Tube trains in London.
His crimes, committed between 2017 and 2021, targeted lone female passengers on the Central and Jubilee lines. Yousaf specifically exploited the vulnerability of women who were sleeping, assaulting them while they were unaware. The case highlights the importance of cross-agency cooperation, as Yousaf was only identified after the Metropolitan Police tipped off British Transport Police (BTP) while he was already serving a sentence for another crime.
The first incident occurred around 5am on March 11, 2017, on a Central Line service near Stratford, where Yousaf masturbated in front of a woman. Over the next four years, he went on to sexually assault eight other women. Initially, BTP struggled to identify the perpetrator due to a lack of CCTV footage on trains and the fact that Yousaf did not use his Oyster card or pass through ticket barriers for several offenses.
However, after receiving intelligence from the Met, BTP re-examined cold cases and linked Yousaf to the assaults. He was charged with eight counts of sexual assault and one of outraging public decency, initially pleading not guilty but changing his plea before trial. At Inner London Crown Court on May 20, Yousaf was sentenced to four and a half years in custody, with an additional four years on licence.
He was also placed on the sexual offenders register for life and issued a sexual harm prevention order. Detective Constable Iryna Cuthbert of BTP stated: 'Salman Yousaf is a calculated predator who deliberately exploited the night-time rail network to target lone women, using their isolation to commit a series of premeditated crimes. Even when confronted, he showed a complete lack of remorse.
Thanks to information from the Met, we were able to link him to a catalogue of vile sexual offending and extend his stay behind bars beyond 2030. I hope his sentence brings some measure of justice to the women he targeted.
' The Crown Prosecution Service authorized the charges, and Yousaf will now serve a significant period behind bars, with strict monitoring upon release
