A recent projection by FanSided's Zachary Rotman imagines an Astros lineup with Alex Bregman back at third base and Jose Altuve in the outfield. The projection highlights the potential depth of the lineup if Bregman re-signs, with the top six hitters having All-Star potential.

The Houston Astros have experienced a tumultuous offseason this winter. Their journey began with reported aspirations to re-sign third baseman Alex Bregman to a substantial contract. However, negotiations reached an impasse, and it appeared unlikely that Bregman would return to Houston. Consequently, the Astros made a trade for infielder Isaac Paredes and signed first baseman Christian Walker to fill the void left by their former third baseman.

Recently, Astros infielder Jose Altuve expressed his willingness to shift positions in an effort to facilitate Bregman's return to Houston. With this development, the Astros have re-entered the competition to secure the $200 million outfielder's signature.FanSided's Zachary Rotman recently constructed an Astros lineup projection that incorporates Bregman at third base and Altuve in the outfield. 'Losing Kyle Tucker is undeniably a significant setback for Houston, particularly as eight of their projected nine hitters in their Opening Day lineup are right-handed, but if parting ways with Tucker allows for the acquisition of Isaac Paredes, Christian Walker, and Bregman, it's not a disastrous outcome,' Rotman wrote. 'This Astros lineup, assuming Bregman re-signs, is arguably the deepest in the American League.'The top six hitters possess the potential to easily make the American League All-Star team in 2025, and Jeremy Pena as the No. 7 hitter is a reliable presence. While the bottom of the order could benefit from some refinement, both Chas McCormick and Jake Meyers demonstrate strong defensive capabilities, and McCormick showcased impressive offensive potential in 2023. In Rotman's lineup, Altuve would bat leadoff while playing left field, and Bregman would bat second while playing third base. Paredes would transition to second base, replacing Altuve. Following the Astros' recent trade of Ryan Pressly to free up financial resources, this potential lineup has become considerably more plausible.
