Natalie Portman declares Bluey cameo the 'most important' credit of her career

'I was really, really honored to get to be a part of it,' Portman said of the beloved Australian cartoon

The thing about famous people is that they do sometimes be just like the rest of us, i.e., at those times when they desperately need something to watch with their children that won’t then cause their brains to come leaking out of their noses out of boredom or irritation.

Hence, maybe, why Natalie Portman declared this week that, of all the credits in her career, a brief voiceover cameo on Australian kids show Bluey is “the most important.” Portman was chatting with Hoda Kotb on Today this week, promoting her upcoming AppleTV+ series Lady In The Lake, when conversation turned toward the kids show. After Kotb makes a joke about being surprised by the credit, from 2021 episode “Whale Watching,” in the show’s second season, Portman is effusive: “It’s the most important one!” Noting that she made a single appearance in the show, as the narrator of a whale documentary that the show’s beloved family of rambunctious blue heelers was watching while playing together, Portman said Bluey was “a very important show for my family. And I was really, really honored to get to be a part of it. It’s just pure joy.” Bluey has featured a number of celebrity cameos over its 6 years on TV, including appearances from Lin-Manuel Miranda, Rose Byrne, Eva Mendes, and a number of famous Aussies coming from closer to its South Hemisphere root. Portman might be the single biggest name ever attached to it, though—which only makes it all the more delightful to see how thoroughly awed she was to be part of such a fun, funny, smart show.
