The women who attended left with a deeper connection to this team and a front-row seat to what the 2026 Trojans are building.
TROY, Ala. - For one night, the Troy Football program opened its doors — and the women of Troy walked right in. The 14th Annual Troy Football Women’s Clinic brought together fans, community members and football enthusiasts for a behind-the-scenes look at the Trojan program.
Presented by Troy Regional Medical Center and hosted by Head Coach Gerad Parker and his wife Kandi, the event drew more than 60 women to campus Thursday evening.
“I think just seeing how much women can do, whether it’s being on the sidelines, whether it’s being an analyst, whether it’s coordinating stuff — I think it’s just really cool to see how Troy also progresses that,” said participant Ginny Gunn. For $30, attendees got a t-shirt, light snacks — and a backstage pass to the same process Troy’s football players go through every week.
“We’re going to give them a small dose of how our guys take a meeting room-slash-classroom to the field for practice,” Coach Parker said. “We’ll teach a few things about the game and the drills we’re going to do.
Then we’re going to challenge the ladies to go out on the field and execute them. ” Some women were returning for their second or third year. Others, like Malyri Chillard, were first-timers.
“I’m excited to learn everything in football and to go home and tell my husband everything I’ve learned,” Chillard said. For starting quarterback Goose Crowder, watching the community rally around the program made an impression.
“Seeing all these smiling faces and all the women come out and show their support and have a good time — it means the world,” Crowder said. The event underscored just how important women are to a football program — whether as a wife, coach, assistant or fan. Kandi Parker has watched the clinic foster her relationships with women across the Troy community, and it’s an event she looks forward to every year.
“It’s kind of like a girls’ night out for us,” she said. “This is a big football community, and a lot of these women probably know a lot more about football than most women. ”Coach Parker said watching his wife grow into her role — and grow this event — has been one of the unexpected highlights of leading the program.
“Seeing her be thrusted into that and us all learn what this means... and see us build that together and her do her part to build girl power — has been neat to see from that lens, because we haven’t seen it before,” he said. The women left with more than a t-shirt. They left with a deeper connection to this team and a front-row seat to what the 2026 Trojans are building.
“It gets closer and closer — it seems like time flies,” Crowder said of the upcoming season. “But yeah, it’ll be a great first event and get the ball rolling. ”Download the WTVY News4 app to get alerts and stories the moment they are published.
