The 49ers opened up their second practice of Organized Team Activities to media and it quickly was noticed that the third-year ball carrier was absent from the field.

The Louisville product registered 84 carries for 420 yards and four touchdowns before not playing a single offensive snap in 2025.

To add depth to the running backs room, the club signed two ball carriers —Jermar Jefferson and Jordan Mims to one-year deals and waived Sincere McCormick. Withtaking the day off, both Jordan James and rookie Kaelon Black saw quite a few reps in team drills.

“I’m always curious how these guys are going to come back,” Shanahan said of James, who is entering his second season with the 49ers. “It was really cool, he came back in shape on Day 1 which I think has really allowed him to gain ground in these five weeks. “He didn’t come here for us to get him in shape, he came in shape and that allows him to get better at football.

” McCaffrey, who has been no stranger to injuries that have kept him from playing the game, shared that Guerendo has been upbeat in his rehab and is looking forward to a return to the field.

“Sometimes this game is super unfortunate,” McCaffrey said. “He was working his butt off all offseason and sometimes it’s that freak stuff that happens, when you strain something in the weight room when you’re training. “It’s unfortunate but got the best attitude, coming in every single day with a smile. Still working just as hard.

It’s not a season-ending injury. He’ll be back. It’s also perspective. As much as he’s down, he will back for the season, so I think there’s some enthusiasm there. ”
