Canadian actor Stewart McLean, known for Virgin River, was found dead after being reported missing. His final text to his agent and last known movements have been detailed by friends and authorities, who are investigating the case as a homicide.
The final text message and last movements of Canadian actor Stewart McLean, known for his role in Virgin River , have been revealed following his tragic death at age 41.
McLean's last communication was a text to his agent on the evening of May 15, confirming his attendance at a work shoot the next day. Acting coach and close friend Jeff Seymour described McLean as meticulous and reliable, making his subsequent absence from the filming set on May 16 highly unusual and alarming.
Seymour recounted that McLean had a normal day, completed a four-hour drive home, and arrived safely that night with his car in the driveway, according to initial reports. When McLean failed to appear for the scheduled shoot, his agent reached out to Seymour, sharing details of their final text exchange. Seymour immediately sensed something was seriously wrong, noting that in the entertainment industry, an actor not showing up is virtually unheard of.
McLean was reported missing on May 18, three days after he was last seen at his home in Lions Bay, British Columbia. An initial search by Lions Bay Search and Rescue was launched, but on May 21, authorities announced that the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) was taking over, reclassifying the case as a possible homicide. On May 22, IHIT confirmed McLean had been found dead.
His agent, David Caplan, released a heartfelt statement praising McLean as a dedicated, professional, and endlessly funny colleague who will be deeply missed by the casting community. McLean's acting career began in 2015 with appearances in Arrow, Supernatural, The 100, and Siren, and he later appeared in The Irrational, Happy Face, and Murder in a Small Town before his recurring role in Virgin River. Friends and colleagues remember him as an honest, astute, and good-natured individual.
Seymour expressed frustration and a desire for justice, emphasizing that McLean had not engaged in any behavior that would provoke anger and suggesting the perpetrator is likely a troubled, desperate person. IHIT continues its investigation and is urging anyone with information to come forward
