Minnesota GophersRecruitingFootball

An in-depth look at the University of Minnesota football program's crucial 'Summer Splash' recruiting weekends, highlighting top uncommitted prospects, position needs, and expert analysis on likely commitments for the 2026 class.

Minnesota football recruiting enters a pivotal phase as the Gophers host their first ' Summer Splash ' official visit weekend from May 29 to May 31, followed by a second weekend June 12-14.

This period, branded under head coach P.J. Fleck, represents a crucial stretch on the high school recruiting calendar. The Gophers have already secured numerous verbal commitments this month, but the upcoming visits present an opportunity to transform their 2026 recruiting class with several high-profile targets. Among the most notable uncommitted prospects scheduled to visit is Daniel Yebit, a consensus top-150 national talent from Yukon, Oklahoma.

Listed at 6-foot-2 and 175 pounds, Yebit holds offers from power programs including Texas Tech, Wisconsin and Iowa, but Minnesota is his only official visit on the docket. His potential commitment would be a game-changer for the Gophers' class. Another fast-rising target is four-star wide receiver Jace Ferguson from Maryland, the No. 2-ranked receiver in his state. At 6-foot-4 and 180 pounds, Ferguson would bring significant size and skill to the position group.

With only one receiver currently committed, new receivers coach Isaac Fruechte is under pressure to land at least one pass-catcher this weekend. Cornerback Jordan Walley, the younger brother of former Gophers star Justin Walley, is also visiting. Though listed at 5-foot-9, he plays quarterback at his high school but is recruited as a defensive back. Minnesota is his only scheduled official visit, making a commitment likely.

Four-star defensive tackle Joshua Hyppolite from North Miami Beach, Florida, is another top target. A versatile two-way player, Hyppolite has subsequent visits set with Georgia, Florida and Miami (FL). Analysts suggest that if he does not commit to Minnesota this week, his recruitment may slip away. On the West Coast, defensive lineman Michael Saunders from San Jose is quickly gaining attention.

At 6-foot-4, he holds offers from UCLA, Cal and Utah, with Minnesota his first official visit before a trip to Utah. Safety Lukas Sakalas' recruitment has accelerated since receiving an offer on May 1. He had an in-home visit with safeties coach Danny Collins and is deciding against offers from Michigan State, Nebraska and others. Edge rusher Ethan Moe, a 6-foot-3 talent from Utah, has been a long-time target and will visit Minnesota before UNLV and Nebraska.

Offensive tackle Jamail Sewell from Wisconsin Lutheran, listed at 6-foot-6 and 275 pounds, fits the prototype for a Big Ten lineman. He already visited campus in April, and a commitment this weekend is considered probable. Multi-sport athlete Elijah Rose from Tennessee, who plays numerous positions for Jackson Christian High School, received an offer on May 11 and will visit Minnesota before South Florida and Missouri State.

Wide receiver Christopher Ferrygood from Texas posted 51 catches for 863 yards and seven touchdowns as a junior. At 6-foot-2, he holds offers from TCU, Oklahoma State and North Texas, with Minnesota his only official visit-another likely commit.

Finally, receiver Carter Donahoo, though ranked outside the top 1,100 by 247Sports, boasts an impressive offer list including Cincinnati and Georgia Tech for his post-Minnesota visits. The Gophers are hoping to secure multiple verbal commitments during these weekends to significantly bolster their 2026 roster
